‘Day for Daniel is Australia’s largest day of action to raise awareness of child safety, protection, and harm prevention. Held annually on the last Friday of every October, Day for Daniel honours the memory of Daniel Morcombe.’ https://danielmorcombe.com.au/day-for-daniel/
Our Telstra Stores have been supporting Day for Daniel since 2011. First starting in our Caloundra store where we dressed in red, donated and first participated in the walk as a team! Since then, our 5 other stores – Telstra Stores Kawana, Nambour, Birtinya, Hervey Bay & Maryborough, as well as our head office crew have jumped on board in supporting Day for Daniel. Whether it be a 4km walk, wearing red, donating or educating others, our (close to) 200 employees participate in any way that they can!
One of our longest employees, Rachel (she’s been with us for 13 years now!!), first encouraged us to get involved in the Walk for Daniel as it is something she holds close to her heart. Rachel is close friends with late Daniel’s older brother and has seen the impact it has had on him and his family. This is what really motivated her to help the Daniel Morcombe Foundation in raising awareness about child safety. (As well as having two gorgeous children of her own).
Every year on Day for Daniel, schools, early learning centres, businesses and communities come together to remember Daniel and continue his legacy by supporting the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.
The Day for Daniel is the largest child safety fundraiser in Australia, and the walk usually involves people who gather from all around the coast to join in on a walk from Woombye to Palmwoods and back – but this year, due to the pandemic, it was a little different. The Foundation asked that friends, family, businesses and anyone in the community (and all around Australia) get together and do their own 4km walk for Daniel, wherever you may be.
So this year we organised an ENTAG Walk for Daniel, along the beautiful Alexandra Headland, with a gold-coin donation breakfast afterwards – raising money for the foundation – this way they can continue to develop child safety resources and support young victims of crime.
This year as a business we have also come on board with their ‘High Five Club’ where we become a part of a business community that supports the foundation and assists in keeping kids safe.
We are so proud to be apart of such a great cause each year and hope we can continue to help out in every way we can! Special thanks to Bruce & Denise for this Thank You video, all our teams are honoured to be involved!
